Imagine you sit down with someone, and for the next hour, you talk about your problem. You bring up every little detail, reliving those moments when you felt anxious, angry, or hurt. By the end of the conversation, how do you feel? More than likely, you feel exhausted, emotionally drained, and still unsure of what to do next.
That’s because when we focus too much on problems, we’re only reactivating those negative emotions. The more you dwell on a problem, the more your brain reinforces it. It’s like walking down a path in the woods—the more you walk it, the more defined the trail becomes. You start wearing a groove in your mind, and soon, the problem feels even bigger than before.
This is where hypnosis flips the script. Instead of reinforcing the problem, hypnosis uses that brief moment of problem activation to direct your unconscious toward a solution.

Let’s dig into how this actually works. When you come to a hypnotist, the goal is simple: activate the problem, feel it, and then move directly into the solution.

A great example comes from our friend Melissa Tiers, an incredible hypnotist and trainer. She’s got this brilliant technique where she’ll listen to someone talk about their issue for a little while, and then, when it’s time, she’ll cut them off and ask, “Are you ready to fix it now?”
That question is powerful. It snaps the person out of the endless loop of rehashing the issue and gets them into a mindset of action. And that’s exactly what we do as hypnotists. We move from talking to doing.
