How To Calibrate And Deepen Trance In Hypnosis

What if I told you that you can make your hypnosis sessions more effective, more enjoyable, and more rewarding by learning two simple skills?

These skills are calibration and deepening trance, and they are essential for any hypnotist who wants to create lasting change in their clients. In this blog post, you’ll discover what they are, why they matter, and how to use them.

Trance is the heart of hypnosis work, because it allows us to communicate with the unconscious mind and facilitate positive changes. However, not all trances are created equal. Some are deeper and more responsive than others.

How do you know if your subject is going deeper into trance? And more importantly, are they deep enough to do the change work?

In this blog post, we will answer these questions and give you some tips on how to deepen trance and calibrate your subjects. We will cover:

  • What is calibration and why is it important for hypnosis
  • How to recognize the signs of trance depth in hypnosis
  • How to learn more about hypnosis from the experts

By the end of this blog post, you will have a better understanding of trance and how to use it for successful hypnosis. Let’s get started!

What Is Calibration and Why Is It Important for Hypnosis

Calibration is the skill of observing and interpreting the subtle signs that indicate the state of mind and body of your subject. Calibration allows you to adjust your approach and tailor your suggestions according to the feedback you receive from your subject.

Calibration is important for hypnosis because it helps you to:

  • Establish rapport and trust with your subject
  • Assess their readiness and willingness to enter trance
  • Monitor their progress and response to your suggestions
  • Enhance their experience and satisfaction with hypnosis

Calibration is not something that you can learn just from books or articles on the internet. Although these guides can teach you how to distinguish the various signs of hypnotic trance, calibration is something that you have to practice and develop through experience.

The more you work with different subjects, the more you will be able to notice the subtle changes that indicate trance depth.

How to Recognize the Signs of Trance in Hypnosis

Trance depth refers to how deeply a person is immersed in trance and how responsive they are to suggestions. The deeper the trance, the more likely the subject will accept and act on the suggestions given by the hypnotist.

Many people use various ‘depth scales’ to measure the depth of trance, but they are not consistent or universal among different subjects or situations.

We suggest that, instead of using trance depth scales, you focus on calibrating your subjects instead.

Experienced hypnotists can tell if their subjects are going deeper into trance just by looking at them. We first get a baseline of what that subject usually looks and behaves like when they are awake and alert. Then we notice when that pattern changes as we guide them into trance.

We’re talking about really subtle things that most people usually overlook or dismiss entirely when interacting with someone. As hypnotists, we know this is a mistake. Hypnosis is just another form of communication, and many of its principles apply in everyday conversations as well.

Some of the things that you can calibrate for trance depth are:

  • Breathing shifts: When the subject’s breath becomes slower and deeper, that’s a sign of body relaxation and hypnotic trance.
  • Facial flushing: A person’s skin color might change slightly as they fall deeper into trance. They might look paler or redder than usual.
  • Muscle relaxation: Subjects in a profound trance may exhibit various signs of profound muscle relaxation. When their head drops forward and their face becomes a mask of calmness and serenity, you can be confident that they are in a deep hypnotic trance.
  • Eye movements: Subjects in trance may show different eye movements than when they are awake. They might blink less often, have rapid eye movements (REM), or have glazed or unfocused eyes.
  • Body movements: Subjects in trance may move less or more than usual. They might become rigid or limp, or show involuntary movements such as twitching, jerking, or swaying.
  • Verbal responses: Subjects in trance may respond differently to your questions or suggestions. They might speak slower or faster, softer or louder, or use different words or tones than usual. Generally speaking, they'll speak at a slower pace as hypnotic inductions usually involve body relaxation.
  • Physiological changes: Subjects in trance may experience changes in their heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, or sweating. They might feel warmer or cooler, more or less sensitive to pain, or have goosebumps or tingling sensations.

These are just some of the signs that you can look for to calibrate trance depth in hypnosis. There are many more, and they may vary depending on the individual and the situation. The key is to be attentive and observant, and to compare the changes with the baseline.

The Best Hypnotic Deepener in the World

Although there are lots of trance deepening methods available, there is one that stands out, head and shoulders above the rest: The Preframe Deepener

We came up with this a number of years ago, and it’s finally becoming mainstream. With all the hypnosis books in our library, we were astounded to never find it anywhere, it’s such an obvious method.

Here’s how you use the method to deepen trance. (Note that the wording is very important).

You induce trance, and then say something like this:

And your unconscious mind knows...that there’s a level of trance...even deeper... than the one you’re currently in...and I’m asking...your unconscious mind...to take you there...NOW…

Then stop talking and watch what happens.

Basically, it works because their unconscious does all the work for you.

Here are the steps:

  • Preframe that the subject’s unconscious mind knows there’s a deeper level
  • Ask the subject’s unconscious mind to take them to that deeper level NOW!
  • Observe what happens as the subject sinks deeper
